Frank Cole - National Coordinator of Men's Ice Hockey Officials

Frank Cole was named NCAA national coordinator of ice hockey officials in 1998. Cole’s responsibilities include preparing preseason education and training in conjunction with the rules committee and championships committees, evaluating and assigning officials for the Division I and III men’s championships and leading recruiting efforts to expand the pool of qualified college officials.

Cole’s collegiate officiating career included time in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (1981-1997) and Hockey East Association (1984-97). During his career, Cole refereed in the Division I Men's Championship 12 times, including five championship games (1985, 1986, 1988, 1995, and 1996). Cole also refereed the Division III Men’s Tournament three times, including one championship game (1987).

Off the ice, Cole also served as the ECAC’s coordinator of officials in 1997-98 before accepting the NCAA position.

 

Tom DiFusco - National Coordinator of Women's Ice Hockey Officials

Tom DiFusco was named NCAA women’s ice hockey coordinator of officials in 2009. His responsibilities are to support, encourage and improve the quality of officiating in women’s college hockey. DiFusco is responsible for evaluating and assigning officials to the NCAA Division I and III women’s championship events and ensuring consistent application and interpretation of the NCAA rules and mechanics. 

Before joining the NCAA, DiFusco refereed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference and Hockey East Association from 1987 to 2009. He was selected to officiate several conference and NCAA postseason championships. He also served as director of officials for the ECAC from 2006-09.


 

Steve Piotrowski - Secretary-Rules Editor

Steve Piotrowski was named NCAA Ice Hockey secretary-rules editor in August 2008. In this role, he works with the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Rules Committee and the National Coordinator of Officials to ensure accurate communication of the playing rules while evaluating the future of the game.  In his role he is responsible for functioning as the national interpreter for NCAA ice hockey rules issues throughout the year.

Piotrowski also serves as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s Director of Officials, taking the position in June 2007. A veteran of more than 1,300 collegiate games, he served as an on-ice official with the CCHA for 26 years. Piotrowski worked in the numerous NCAA Tournament and national championship games, beginning in 1987, along with being selected by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to referee in the World Championship and World Junior Championship events.  

Piotrowski started in the CCHA in 1978 as a player at Ferris State University.
